Google rebrands its Files Go app to ‘Files’ with latest Material Theme redesign

Google has been working on giving its Android apps a fresh coat of paint with the latest iteration of Material theme. The company is done with rolling out the design for most of its apps, but the work is still pending. As part of the same effort, the company has now rolled out the new redesign for its Files Go app in beta. As part of the rebrand, the company has also renamed the app from ‘Files Go’ to just ‘Files’.

According to Android Police, there is no change in the functionality of the app. The new version of the app only focuses on the visual overhaul of the app including the name. The report also noted that a number of fonts in the app have been changed “with Google‘Product Sans”. The changes in the beta app include improvements in the iconography, changes in the order of entries, and other minor changes.

It is worth keeping in mind that this is a beta version of the app, and beta versions are generally less stable than the final version. If you rely heavily on the app then it is best to stick to the stable version.

This new announcement comes days after the company released the November Android Security patch for its Google Pixel and Nexus devices along with releasing the code and sources to other Android device makers.
