Huawei’s feature-packed Mate 20 Pro is much difficult to repair, as it scores a four out of 10 in ease of repairing by iFixit. Earlier this month, Huawei launched the Mate 20-series smartphones at an event in London. The latest flagship Mate 20 Pro boats of in-display fingerprint sensor, triple rear camera module and 3D Face Unlock among other highlights.
In iFixit teardown, the DIY experts criticized Mate 20 Pro’s glass design because of the quantity of glue on the front and back glass panels. Huawei Mate 20 Pro features a curved screen and iFixit notes that replacing the front glass without destroying will mean “a lot of disassembly while battling tough adhesive.”
Furthermore, it’s been suggested that broken screen will result in replacement of in-display fingerprint sensor. Huawei isn’t using second-gen ultrasonic sensor from Qualcomm on the Mate 20 Pro, instead the setup is by Gudix, which is similar too OnePlus 6T.
Internally, the Mate 20 Pro’s motherboard uses more flex connectors than any average smartphone, although Huawei has got appreciation from iFixit for modular components. It noted that components are easy to replace independently. It also uses standard Phillips screws as opposed to proprietary, which makes it easy to open as well. As for the battery replacement, iFixit feels that the Huawei has kept it complicated. One needs to remove the back panel and frame in order to replace a battery.

Previously, Google Pixel 3 was also rated same as the Huawei Mate 20 Pro by iFixit. It noted that replacing Google Pixel 3 screen will be tricky, and it will most likely require replacing the whole frame of the phone, which will add to the cost.
