With products like the triple camera-toting Mate 20 series of smartphones and the Kirin 980 (7nm) SoC, Huawei has established itself as one of the most innovative companies in the mobile industry. Now, it seems that the Chinese electronics major has set its sights on next-generation technologies like Augmented Reality (AR).
According to a report by CNBC, Huawei is working on Augmented Reality smart glasses that it could launch within the next 1-2 years. It’s worth mentioning that rival companies like Apple are already working in this field.
In an exclusive interview to CNBC, Richard Yu, Chief Executive Officer of Huawei’s consumer business group, said that the company’s Augmented Reality smart glasses could take things to the next level.
“With this AR, you can have AR glasses working with phone, maybe you can watch more of a large area. In the beginning you may feel AR … is nothing. But in future you will see more and more the value of that,” Yu said.
Yu said that Huawei would first bring Augmented Reality experiences to its smartphones, so that users can get accustomed to the technology. This would be followed by the actual smart glasses.
“The next one to two years I think the industry will commercialize, even for Huawei. We will bring a better user experience product,” he added.

In related news, Huawei is working on a quad-camera smartphone that will feature 10x optical zoom, allowing detailed images to be captured without any loss in image quality. This was revealed by Walter Ji, President of Huawei’s consumer business group (Western European region), in an interview to AndroidPIT, a German technology blog.
