Samsung seems to be setting up supply chain line to start manufacturing its upcoming flagship smartphone lineup, the Samsung Galaxy S10. According to a new leak, it looks like the company is planning to source the ultrasonic-in-display fingerprint scanners for the Galaxy S10 series from two companies.
Both these companies, GIS and O-film, have teamed up with Qualcomm to make the in-display fingerprint scanner that is based on ultrasonic technology. According to current plans, both these companies are planning to start making the scanners in January 2019, which is in line with the time when Samsung usually launches its devices.
According to the information about the Galaxy S10, it looks like the company is planning to reveal the device at MWC 2019 in February. According to Taiwanese publication DigiTimes, GIS is known for higher yield rates when it comes to the scanner, while O-film is known for considerable high capacity that allows them to demand a lower price for their scanners. As previously reported, Samsung is planning to launch its base model of the Galaxy S10 with a flat screen and a side-mounted fingerprint scanner.

The report also indicated that both the companies are competing against each other to get the order for the upcoming Galaxy Note smartphone or even the Galaxy A series if and when the company plans to add the ultrasonic in-display fingerprint scanner.
Taking a look at the other smartphone makers in the market and the relationship of both these companies with Samsung rivals, GIS and another company by the name TPK supply the touch panels to Apple for their iPhone and iPad lineup. O-film joined back in 2017 as the supplier for Apple.
