At the Poco F1 launch, Xiaomi had announced that the device will get Android 9 Pie update by Q4, 2018. Now it seems that the company is in the final phase of delivering on its promise. On its MIUI forum, the company noted that “Android P open beta will be released in December. We are running the final test now.”
It’s been some time that Xiaomi started rolling out the Android 9 Pie-based MIUI Global Beta 10.8.30 to closed MIUI Beta testers. The next progression stage naturally is the Open Beta, which is now confirmed to release in December.
At present, Xiaomi’s Poco F1 runs Android 8.1 Oreo-based MIUI with a skin on top. Xiaomi calls it ‘MIUI for Poco’. As for the closed Beta ROM, it is being tested among select Beta testers only. The MIUI Global Beta 10.8.30 based on Android 9 Pie can be installed using a custom recovery and not via Updater method as this is a closed beta.
Xiaomi launched the Poco F1 to counter OnePlus’ growing popularity in the premium mid-range segment. The Poco F1 comes with premium hardware at a cheaper price tag. Xiaomi says that the handset has managed a lot of consumer interest, and it has plans to offer next version of Android (probably the Android Q) as well.

Poco F1 will essentially get Android 9 Pie and one more software update (Android Q) in its life cycle. The MIUI shipped with Android 8.1 Oreo was the version 9.6. The announcement came as part of the “Latest Feedbacks” for the device where the software team updates Poco F1 users about issues and user feedback.
