OnePlus to open its first R&D facility in Hyderabad; plans to make it its largest center in 3 years

OnePlus has just announced that it is planning to open its first R&D facility in Hyderabad. This will be the first of its kind facility by OnePlus in the Indian market. According to the company, this facility will play an important role in developing AI and ML for OnePlus products. In addition to this, the company will also use this center to make India-centric changes or addition to its software. The company plans to take full advantage of the talent present in Hyderabad, a place that is considered to be “the biggest IT hubs in the country”.

In addition to making use of the talented people present in the city, the company also wants to make use of “one of the most active start-up zones” as it will allow the company to be in the same area where most startups are working on emerging technologies. OnePlus founder Pete Lau issued a statement, “In three years, we plan to grow the new R&D center in Hyderabad into our biggest globally.” He went on to add, “We plan to re-focus our R&D efforts on a large scale and drive innovations in India for the global product.”

It is likely that the company will focus on developing the software and AI chops for its upcoming TV at this research facility. If that is the case then this R&D facility will be crucial for the future of the company.

OnePlus has not confirmed the products that it is planning to work on at the research facility but the contribution of the facility to its growth is likely to be key to its growth.
