Nokia 8.1 spotted on Geekbench; Nokia 6.1 to get Android Pie soon, company confirms

HMD Global has already launched a handful of smartphones this year, and looks like the company isn’t done yet. The Finnish company may have some surprises coming along over the next few months. Everyone is waiting for the rumored Nokia 9 flagship smartphone, but the company seems ready to unveil the successor to Nokia 8. A new smartphone called Nokia 8.1 has just surfaced on Geekbench listing, and it reveals some key specification details.

While the Nokia 8 was a flagship smartphone powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC, the Nokia 8.1 may not be as powerful. The Geekbench listing (spotted by AndroidPure) reveals that the Nokia 8.1 will be powered by a Snapdragon 710 SoC paired with 4GB of RAM. It was spotted running Android 9 Pie OS, which means the smartphone may ship with the latest Android flavor at launch. In the test, the Nokia 8.1 logged a score of 1,841 in single core test, and 5,807 in multi-core test.

Meanwhile, the Nokia 6.1 that was launched earlier this year at MWC 2018, is all set to get Android Pie update soon. HMD Global’s Chief Product Officer Juho Sarvikas took it to Twitter while replying to one of the users, and thus confirm that the Pie update will be released soon. “Next. We will skip betalabs on Nokia 6.1 and roll out soon,” he replied to the tweet.

To recap, the Nokia 6.1 is available to purchase from Flipkart for less than Rs 13,000. It comes with a 5.5-inch full HD display with conventional 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio. Powered by a Snapdragon 630 SoC, the smartphone comes with 3GB of RAM and 32GB storage. In the photography department, it comes with a 16-megapixel rear camera, and an 8-megapixel front camera. To keep things ticking, the smartphone houses a 3,000mAh battery.
