Alleged Huawei Nova 4 with ‘punch hole’ in-screen camera pictured in the wild

Earlier this month, at its developer conference in San Francisco, Samsung showcased three different notch designs that it’ll be using in its future smartphones. Dubbed Infinity-U, Infinity-V, and Infinity-O, these are named after the letters of the alphabet that they resemble. Of the three styles, the Infinity-O is particularly interesting, since it’s essentially a hole ‘punched’ into the display itself, allowing the front-facing camera to be placed underneath it.

Recent reports and rumors have claimed that Samsung Galaxy A8s could turn out to be the first smartphone with a punched-in Infinity-O display. And even though there’s no certain timeframe as to when the A8s would launch, a teaser posted by Huawei today hinted that the Chinese technology major could beat Samsung by launching a smartphone with a punched-in display as early as December 2018. Interestingly, that upcoming Huawei smartphone has made an appearance already.

A picture was recently shared by Slashleaks, having originally surfaced on Chinese social networking platform Weibo. It shows a person using a smartphone with what appears to be a display with a punch hole at its top-left corner.

Even though the hole in the display is clearly visible, no other characteristics of the smartphone can be discerned from the picture (shown above). That’s because the device is in a bulky and thick case, most likely to hide its design and other important features from the public eye. However, since the user can be seen listening to music via a pair of wired earphones, what’s confirmed is that smartphone does have a 3.5mm audio port.

Interestingly, the picture’s caption on Slashleaks claims that the smartphone in question is Huawei Nova 4. This is definitely in line with previous rumors, which have claimed that this could be the smartphone hinted at in the teaser posted by Huawei today.
