Audible, an Amazon subsidiary and the world’s largest producer and seller of downloadable spoken audio content, has arrived in India. The company has launched Audible.in, a localized platform that will allow users in India to access Audible’s vast catalog of more than 200,000 audiobooks, including a curated selection of 400 Audible-exclusive titles by prominent Indian authors.
In addition to audiobooks, Audible also produces and sells other spoken audio content such as radio shows and TV programs.
To mark the platform’s launch in India, Audible has released a new recording of S. Hussain Zaidi and Jane Borges’ best-seller – Mafia Queens of Mumbai – performed by Bollywood actors Rajkummar Rao, Radhika Apte, and Kalki Koechlin.
Commenting on the launch, Audible’s founder and CEO Don Katz said, “Honoring India’s distinctive literary and storytelling tradition and supporting the creation of vibrant local content, Audible.in is a dedicated, authentic and dynamic destination for Indian consumers that puts Indian talent and spoken-word content front and center.”
“Millions of listeners around the world already turn to Audible to enhance the character and quality of daily life, and we look forward to delivering an even richer and more culturally resonant listening experience to our Indian customers and customers to come,” Katz added.
