Fortnite adds Gifting option for a limited time

It’s the holiday season and gifts are a traditional part of the festivities. Epic Games is now all set to take part in the spirit of the festivities, and has added the option to gift friends in-game items from the item shop on Fortnite. Players have been asking for this feature for a long time now, and Epic Games has finally added the feature on a test basis on the game.

The new option is being only being added for a week with the v6.31 update. Epic Games wrote on its blog, “We know that many of you have been eagerly awaiting a gifting feature and today we’re excited to announce that for a limited time we’ll be offering it with the release of our 6.31 update! This initial gifting period will last one week after the release of the update.”

This update will not be available for Fortnite on iOS because Epic Games explains that Apple policies don’t allow gifting of in-game items to another user. The update is now available for all other users.

To gift something to a friend, players will need to go to the Item Shop, and choose which item to purchase. Once selected, they will be given an option to “Purchase Items” or to “Buy As A Gift”. Once the “Buy As A Gift” option is selected, the friend list will open up and players will be able to select who to send it to. Epic Games also lets players add a special message to the gift.

There are a few things that have been mentioned by Epic Games as necessities for sending gifts.

– Make sure you have Multi-factor authentication enabled on your account.
– You must have been friends with somebody for at least 48 hours before you can send a gift to them.
– You will only be able to gift three times within a 24 hour period.
– Any gifts that are purchased are NOT refundable.
– You can only gift an item that is currently available in the Item Shop.

Players also have an option to disable receiving gifts in the Account Settings section of the game.
