Inline with dark theme in Android’s material design, Google has now rolled the same option for Google Contacts app. Now with the updated version of Google Contacts 3.2, users will see a new dark mode setting option to turn background from white to grey.
Google had initially updated Contacts app in August with Material Design interface, but it missed the dark mode option. The company has been shipping similar feature for most of its apps. It recently admitted that dark modes helps prolong battery life as well.
For those still not familiar with how the dark mode appears on the apps by Google, it usually inverts the colors which means that the black text becomes white and the white background becomes a dark grey.
Google Contacts V3.2 update is rolling out today, reports Android Police. Users will be able to see the dark mode toggle in Google Contacts’ pull-out menu. Interestingly, the toggle settings won’t appear if you have already enabled ‘Night mode’ in the developer options. It will only show that the “dark theme in device settings is on” instead of a toggle button.

There has been a recent surge in the use of the Dark Theme in apps. Recently at Android Developers’ Summit, Google explained how Dark Mode saves energy and it also presented a chart alongside. It showed how YouTube in the Dark Mode at 50 percent screen brightness consumes 14 percent less battery than on normal mode. At 100 percent screen brightness, Dark Mode consumes 60 percent less battery.
