HMD Global, the Finnish company with license to sell Nokia-branded smartphones and tablets, has been building its brand on the promise of timely software updates. In line with that strategy, the company is rolling out latest security update for a number of its devices.
Nokia 8, Nokia 6 and Nokia 5 were among the first devices to get November security update. Now, a report by MySmartPrice claims the update is bring rolled out for Nokia 3 as well. The update is not a major one but it updates security patch level to November 5. This means that HMD Global’s smartphones are now resilient against some of the zero-day attacks known in the last few weeks.
The update, which has a download size of 82.75MB does not upgrade the main software and Nokia 3 continues to run Android 8.0 Oreo. The update brings November security patch and other bug fixes and is being rolled out in the form of an OTA update. Those who haven’t received the update can manually check for it by heading to Settings >> System Update >> Check for Update.
Alongside Nokia 3, the November security patch is also being rolled out to Nokia 6.1 Plus (sold as Nokia X6 in Chinese market), Nokia 8 and Nokia 8 Sirocco. While these devices are getting updated with latest security patch, the Android 9 Pie update is still several months away for most devices.
Nokia 7 plus and Nokia 6.1 Plus are the only two devices from HMD Global to have received Android Pie update. The company has promised to release Pie update for other devices including Nokia 5.1 Plus and Nokia 3.1 Plus by the end of December.

Google, on the other hand, is believed to be planning to mandate smartphone makers to release at least four security updates in a year. The maker of Android wants OEMs to release two updates within a span not exceeding 90 days and failing to do so could mean Google refuse approval and sale of a device made by these companies.
