As expected, Huawei has today launched its latest flagship smartphone in India. The Mate 20 Pro was first launched in the UK last month, and just over a month later has come to our shores. At the event today, the Chinese company also showcased its high-end Porsche Design Mate 20 RS variant.
Huawei Mate 20 Pro prices, launch offers
The Mate 20 Pro has been launched in India with a price tag of Rs 69,990. While it is clearly on the higher side, it is still less expensive than other flagship devices like the Google Pixel 3 XL, and the Apple iPhone XR.
The flagship smartphone will be going on sale exclusively via Amazon India on December 4. Amazon Prime members will get their hands on the device a day early on December 3. Buyers will be able to choose from Emerald Green, Black, and Twilight color options. As a part of the launch, Huawei will be offering a pair of Sennheiser PCX550 headphones to buyers for just Rs 2,000. These headphones are normally priced at Rs 29,990. In essence, the flagship smartphone along with the headphones will be available for Rs 71,990.
Huawei Mate 20 Pro features
The highlight of the Huawei Mate 20 Pro is its cameras. There are essentially four cameras on board – three at the back, and one up front. At the back is a 40-megapixel f/1.8 wide-angle lens, 20-megapixel f/2.2 ultra wide-angle lens, and an 8-megapixel f/2.4 telephoto lens. Up front, there is a 24-megapixel f/2.0 snapper with support for 3D depth sensing.
The cameras are backed by Artificial Intelligence, and come with features like AI Composition, AI 4D predictive focus, AI HDR, and also what the company calls AI Cinema Mode. This mode lets users tweak the hue, saturation and brightness of their video clips, and also add effects like Vintage, Fresh, Suspense and Background Blur. Another feature called AI Spotlight Reel identifies clips with a shared theme and auto-generates 10-second montages.
Huawei Mate 20 Pro specifications
As far as the rest of the specifications are concerned, the Mate 20 Pro flaunts a 6.39-inch OLED display with QHD+ (3120×1440 pixels) resolution, and 19.5:9 aspect ratio. Under the hood is Huawei’s own Kirin 980 SoC built on the 7nm fabrication process. The chipset is accompanied by a dedicated NPU for handling AI-related tasks.
The smartphone also comes with 6GB of RAM, and 128GB internal storage. There is an option to expand the internal memory of the device, but for that one will have to use Huawei’s proprietary nanoSD card. Alternatively, users can opt for two nano SIM cards.
For security, the device features an in-display fingerprint sensor and face unlock feature. Making sure everything ticks is a 4,200mAh battery that is good enough to last up to two days on moderate usage. You can juice up the battery using Huawei’s 40W SuperCharge tech. There is support for wireless charging, as well as reverse wireless charging. This feature essentially allows you to charge another device by keeping it on top of the Mate 20 Pro.
Connectivity options include 4.5G VoLTE connectivity, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, GPS, Bluetooth 5.0, and USB Type-C port. As we are seeing on other flagship devices, there is no 3.5mm audio jack on the Mate 20 Pro. There is however IP-68 certification, which makes the device resistant to water and dust. On the software front, it runs Android 9 Pie wrapped under EMUI 9.0.
