Apple iPhone users are reportedly waking up to being locked away from their account. There are a number of iPhone users complaining on social media that their Apple ID has been locked but there are no details about the cause or pattern causing this yet.
The Cupertino, California-based iPhone maker is known to lock accounts for many different reasons and it usually happens when it sees someone attempting to access an account by entering incorrect password multiple times. While users can regain access to their account by answering the security question and entering a trusted phone number for validation, users may also have to reset their passwords at times.
In the case of those users who have their accounts locked, iOS will present an alert in settings with the message that Apple ID must be updated. If you are locked out of your Apple ID settings then you stand to lose access to services like iMessage, iCloud and Apple Music till the time, you reverify your identity by entering proper credentials.
The ‘Update Apple ID Settings’ screen typically requires the user to re-enter their password to refresh credentials stored on the device. But, some iPhone users have reported that their accounts have actually been frozen.
There is a possibility that some group is attempting to infiltrate Apple ID of a number of users. This could have resulted in Apple locking a large number of accounts to prevent the risk of Apple IDs getting hacked by unknown bad actors. 9to5Mac reports that some users affected by this issue are receiving repeated requests to log in since setting up a new iOS device.
