iPhone XR users can now expand notifications with Haptic Touch in iOS 12.1.1 update

Apple iPhone XR users will be able to expand notifications using Haptic Touch after the iOS 12.1.1 update. The iPhone XR does not offer 3D Touch and Apple added Haptic Touch to keep the phone pricing low this year. So because of the lack of pressure-sensitive display, Apple has introduced many alternative gestures for iPhone XR’s ‘Haptic Touch’.

With the iOS 12.1.1 beta 2, Apple iPhone XR users can use a normal long-press gesture on the notification to see the rich content and action buttons. Unlike 3D Touch, the feature does not require varying levels of force like Peek and Pop, noted 9to5Mac.

In September, Apple launched three new iPhones, the premium iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max with 3D Touch that start at Rs 99,900 and go all the way up to Rs 144,900. And then there is the “affordable” iPhone XR that starts at Rs 76,900 for base model, and goes all the way up to Rs 91,900. It may not have the OLED display with 3D Touch and dual rear cameras, but Apple did ensure that the iPhone XR comes with the latest chipset, and Face ID feature, among other improvements.

iPhone XR’s Haptic Touch works in only a few places for now. It doesn’t support Peek and Pop feature for previewing content, and this might not even come at all.

Apple recently confirmed that it is working to bring the 3D Touch replacement with more quick shortcuts across iOS over time. At present, the iPhone XR Haptic Touch supports functionalities like flashlight, control Center pop up menu and camera shortcuts other than notifications expansion.
