Nubia Red Magic 2 with 10GB RAM, Snapdragon 845 announced; Now up for crowdfunding

Smartphone gaming is a huge deal these days, particularly with the worldwide attention on games such as PUBG Mobile, Fortnite and Asphalt 9 Legends, to name a few. Many manufacturers are now launching specialist gaming phones, the latest such option being the Nubia Red Magic 2. The new smartphone is now open to crowdfunding through Chinese e-commerce portal JD.com, and comes with impressive specifications including 10GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC and RGB lights at the back.

Although crowdfunding is open till December 6, the goal has already been crossed more than twice over. The Nubia Red Magic 2 is the successor the Nubia Red Magic, which was launched earlier this year in China. The predecessor is expected to launch in India in the coming days at a price point of under Rs 30,000. The Nubia Red Magic is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC, and comes with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. Like its predecessor, the Nubia Red Magic 2 will run on Red Magic OS on top of Android 9 Pie.

There aren’t too many additional details on what to expect from the new smartphone at the moment, but the crowdfunding page does detail something called ‘4D gaming’ which will enhance the gaming experience, in-built liquid cooling and touch-sensitive air-triggers in the top corners of the phone (when in landscape mode) which can be used as additional buttons in certain games. How these will work remains to be seen, but the concept does seem interesting.

There’s obviously no word on whether the phone will launch in India for now, given that it is currently only being sold through a crowdfunding campaign in China. The phone will directly compete against other gaming-centric phones launched this year, such as the Razer Phone 2, Xiaomi Black Shark Helo and Asus ROG Phone.
