Last month, Apple launched its new iPad Pro at a special event in New York. It comes with a refreshed design and has some interesting new features as well. However, what sticks out immediately when you look at it, is the tablet’s display.
Available in 11-inch and 12.9-inch sizes, Apple iPad Pro (2018) has what the company calls a ‘Liquid Retina’ display. According to Apple, the display’s rounded corners are made possible by a process called sub-pixel anti-aliasing. It involves rounding the edges by tuning individual pixels, resulting in smooth and distortion-free edges. That, combined with the reduced bezels around the screen, results in an expansive display that’s ideal for not just productivity-focused tasks, but also for binge-watching your favorite movies and TV shows. And if you love binge-watching on Netflix and recently got yourself a new iPad Pro, we’ve got good news for you.
Netflix has updated its official iOS app to support the displays of the new iPads. The update addresses a recently-discovered issue, which causes many existing iOS apps to be displayed on the 2018 iPads with black bars on all sides. The issue is more prominent on the smaller 11-inch iPad Pro (2018), because it features a different aspect ratio than its predecessor. The 12.9-inch model has the same aspect ratio as its predecessor, but even then, the rounded corners were causing the app to be displayed with black bars.
With the latest update, Netflix’s iOS app looks properly optimized and displays full-screen on both 11-inch and 12.9-inch variants of the 2018 iPad Pro.

Since the problem is likely to affect a lot of other apps, it remains to be seen how long it will take for them to be updated for the new iPad Pros’ displays.
