OnePlus is known for delivering timely software updates for its smartphones. The OnePlus 6 that was launched earlier this year has already got a taste of the latest Android 9 Pie OS, whereas the recently launch OnePlus 6T, runs the new OS out-of-the-box. At the time of releasing the Android Pie update for OnePlus 6, CEO Pete Lau did mention that update for OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 5 may take a while.
Now, according to a report on TheAndroidSoul, OnePlus is seeding a new version of HydrogenOS that also brings Android 9 Pie. The update is available for OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T users in China. However, this being a beta software, not everyone will get the OTA.

While this is a good news, it also means that the update is not available for everyone. If you want to stand a chance to test it out, you’ll need to be a part of the beta program. In case you live in China, and are a part of the beta program, you should get the update in the coming days.
There is one more thing to note. This being an early beta build, there are high chances that it may have its own set of bugs, which may cause the phone to reboot randomly, or apps to force close. So, do ensure that you don’t install it on your daily driver.
Lastly, OnePlus hasn’t mentioned anything about when it will be releasing the Android 9 Pie update for the OnePlus 5 and 5T. But considering the beta is in place, a wider rollout may happen towards the end of 2018, or early 2019.
