WhatsApp, the popular messaging platform has over 200 million users in India, and it is also one of the most preferred messaging app. While it is the go to communications medium, WhatsApp has its own setbacks too – one where it has seen a rise in fake news. Adding to the list is the new message that is being circulated – Apple iPhone X at an unbeatable price.
The message reads, “Buy Apple IPhone X Mobile at *999 Rs (90% off) in Flash Sale http://bit.ly/Sale-Apple-iphoneX. Grab this offer now, Deal valid only for First 1,000 Customers. Visit here to Buy- http://bit.ly/Sale-Apple-iphoneX.” Spotted by Gadgets Now, clicking on the link takes users to a site called khabrehindi.com where the iPhone X (64GB) model is listed, with a discount of 90 percent.

The listing page has a design similar to Amazon India, with good ratings and comments. The page also mentions “Fulfilled by Prime”. Basically, the page is exact replica of Amazon product listing, and in the first glance, it will be difficult to figure out the difference between original and fake.
In terms of payment, users can go for cash on delivery method. Once you click on ‘proceed to checkout option’ a pop-up page opens asking readers to share the link with 8 friends or groups on WhatsApp “to prevent users from ordering more than one iPhone X,” and unless you do that, the page won’t proceed further. The page then asks for credit card details.
Now, despite you choosing the cash on delivery option, it asks for credit card details, which isn’t something that should happen. The scamsters can collect your card details and wipe your hard-earned money. It is better to stay away from scams.
