Samsung Galaxy A6+, Galaxy A8 Star price cut; now starts at Rs 18,990 in India

Samsung Galaxy A6+ and Galaxy A8 Star have reportedly received a price cut in India. The price cut could be owed to the ongoing festive season. According to Mumbai-based retailer Mahesh Telecom, the Galaxy A6+ and Galaxy A8 Star are available at Rs 18,990 and Rs 29,990 respectively. While the retailer has revealed the new price, Samsung is yet to officially reveal the discounted price, and even its official e-store shows older price.

If the latest numbers for smartphone market share from IDC is anything to go by, Samsung is losing its market share globally at a relatively quick pace. IDC claims that the global smartphone market declined six percent during the third quarter of this year, and Samsung lost 13.4 percent market share over the previous year. The company is struggling to match Chinese rivals in growth markets like India and its market share in China is almost negligible.

In order to stay competitive, Samsung might be resorting to the idea of reducing price on its mid-range smartphones. Samsung Galaxy A6+ was launched early this year as Samsung’s mid-range smartphone with an Infinity Display design seen on its more premium devices. The smartphone was available for Rs 21,990 last time around, and the retailer claims it has further dropped to Rs 18,990.

The Galaxy A6+ features a 6-inch Full HD+ Infinity Display with 18.5:9 aspect ratio, Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 SoC, 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. It sports dual rear camera setup with a 16-megapixel and 5-megapixel sensors, and a 24-megapixel selfie camera. It runs Android 8.0 Oreo, and is backed by a 3,500mAh battery.
