Samsung Galaxy S9+ receiving November security patch in some countries: Report

Samsung Galaxy S9+ is reportedly receiving a new update in some European countries with November security patch. The flagship Galaxy S series smartphone is said to be getting this update over Samsung Smart Switch and not via over-the-air (OTA) release.

According to Sammobile, the Galaxy S9+ update has been released with software version G965FXXS2BRJ6 in some European countries only. Since it is not an OTA release, there is no changelog as yet, but the update is said to be similar to Galaxy Note 8 November update.

Meanwhile, Samsung is looking to upgrade its Experience UI to all-new Samsung OneUI. The Android 9 Pie based software layer can be considered as a refreshed approach by the company. As of now, the OneUI seems to be in limited availability. A recent report suggested that older devices are unlikely to get updated to the new interface.

Samsung OneUI is all about design improvements that are meant to make usability easier. This includes tweaks for one-handed usage despite the increasing screen sizes, and a general de-cluttering of the interface. It remains to be seen if OneUI can actually improve upon the current software experience significantly.

The UI is built on Android 9 Pie and will be launched on the Samsung Galaxy S9, Galaxy S9+ and Galaxy Note 9 starting January 2019, but the Samsung Galaxy S8, S8+ and Note 8 won’t be getting the new UI. At this point, it’s unclear if the older devices will even be getting Android 9 Pie.
