There seems to be no end in sight to Facebook’s woes. Ever since the notorious Cambridge Analytica scandal surfaced earlier this year, the social media company’s public image and credibility have taken a nosedive. And if the latest news is any indication, Facebook’s troubles aren’t going to be over anytime soon.
According to a CNET report, the UK Parliament may release sensitive documents about Facebook’s knowledge of Russian interference on its platform “within the next week”. The documents are expected to contain evidence that the social networking major knew about the issue as early as 2014. That said, an exact date for the release of the documents isn’t known yet.
Damian Collins, a British MP who heads the Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Committee, mentioned that the documents include an email from a Facebook engineer, warning senior people to potential Russian meddling on the social media platform as early as 2014. They could also have private internal discussions between Facebook executives, including the company’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
“There’s clearly a growing interest in what the documents contain,” Collins was quoted as saying by the CNET report.
It’s worth mentioning that the above-mentioned sensitive documents were recently procured by the UK Parliament by exercising its legal powers. They were retrieved from the CEO of Six4Three, a US-based company, when he was on a business trip to London.

“This is an unprecedented move but it’s an unprecedented situation. We’ve failed to get answers from Facebook and we believe the documents contain information of very high public interest,” Collins had told The Guardian.
