Apple launched the AirPods alongside the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus in 2016. The launch of AirPods revolutionized the wireless audio market since it was the first truly wireless earbuds from a mainstream smartphone maker. The AirPods were launched in order to complement the lack of headphone jack on the iPhone 7 and newer models and it forced a lot of other players to get creative as well.
Samsung, Huawei, Honor, Jabra, Bose, Sony and others have all launched their own versions of AirPods and Xiaomi also joined the segment recently with its wireless earbuds called the AirDots. While AirDots differ from the AirPods in terms of design, a new FCC listing suggests the Chinese smartphone maker is set to borrow Apple’s design. Xiaomi is reportedly developing a new pair of EarBuds that look identical to Apple AirPods in terms of design.
These new truly wireless earbuds have already been certified by FCC. The documents, which are now available publicly, reveal a pair of wireless earbuds that can be easily disguised as AirPods. The filing reveals these earbuds could be called “Mi True Wireless Earphones” when they become official.
The listing makes it clear that Xiaomi is taking Apple’s concept and putting its own touches including the design of earbuds, which seems to be similar to that of Mi In-Ear headphones. The documents also show that Xiaomi‘s true wireless earphones will come with a silicone ear tips, which will be a huge win over Apple’s offering in terms of comfort.
The FCC document also reveals that these ear tips can be split into three different size options. Alongside the earbuds, there is also an image of the charging case which has a multi-function button on the side. The USB Type-C port is underneath will help in charging the case as well as earbuds.

The Mi True Wireless Earphones will support Bluetooth 4.2 and will support touch controls on the buds. It is said to last up to three hours on a single charge and the charging case is likely to provide up to an additional 10 hours of listening experience. Apple was rumored to launch second-generation AirPods alongside iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR in September but it seems we will have to wait a bit longer.
