Nokia 2.1, the entry-level smartphone in HMD Global‘s product lineup, is now getting security update for the month of November. The update is being pushed to some markets, and India is among them. The update, being rolled out for Nokia 2.1, only brings November security patch and there is no change in the basic Android level.
According to NPU, the update is available for Nokia 2.1 users in India, but there is no clarity as to which variants are being updated to November security. The update is around 63.9MB in size, and and if you own the smartphone then you can manually check for the update by heading to Settings -> System Update -> Check for Update.
The changelog along with the update only mentions the November security patch, and does not seem to bring any other changes. Google‘s own security release suggests that November patch brings fix to a severe vulnerability that allowed an attacker to execute an arbitrary code using a specially crafted file within the context of a privileged process.
The release of November security patch for Nokia 2.1 shows how HMD Global is quickly getting ahead of rivals when it comes to releasing timely security updates. The company has been consistent with respect to releasing security updates for its smartphones. HMD Global has already confirmed that all of its smartphones will get security updates and major Android update for a minimum of two years.
The Nokia 2.1 is priced at Rs 6,999, and is one of the cheapest smartphones from the Finnish company. It features a 5.5-inch HD display, and is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 SoC coupled with 1GB RAM and 8GB internal storage. The Android Go edition smartphone features an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front camera. It is backed by a 4,000mAh battery and is available in three different colors.
