A little over a month ago, OnePlus launched its much-awaited OnePlus 6T smartphone in India. Like most of its predecessors, OnePlus’ latest ‘flagship killer’ offers bleeding-edge hardware at a price that’s (still) competitive when compared to rivals. However, the biggest new feature of OnePlus 6T is its under-display fingerprint sensor. Since the technology is still in early stages, the in-display fingerprint sensor is not as fast as conventional fingerprint scanners. Nonetheless, it’s the next step in the evolution of mobile technologies, and is set to become a common feature on most smartphones in the future.
Now, by default, whenever you place your finger on the under-display fingerprint sensor, it animates in a bright color to indicate that it’s working. While that’s great, what if you want to change that color? Well, you can!
Going by the username mingo_mgx, an XDA Developers member has developed a Substratum theme that lets you change the color of OnePlus 6T’s fingerprint sensor’s animation from green to fuchsia pink. In case you don’t know, Substratum is a customization tool that lets you apply system-wide themes to Android smartphones.
If you want to change the color of your OnePlus 6T’s fingerprint sensor animation, you can simply download the theme (search for MGx FingerPrint Animation Changer) and apply it.
However, before you do that, you’ll need to unlock the bootloader of your OnePlus 6T and root it as well. To do so, you need to first enable OEM unlocking via the phone’s settings. Once that’s done, the bootloader must be unlocked via ADB commands. Lastly, TWRP recovery for the smartphone must be flashed, followed by Magisk. It’s worth mentioning that for now, the above-mentioned theme only changes the animation color to fuchsia pink. However, the developer has stated that more color options will be added soon.
