At an online event yesterday, HMD Global introduced a trio of new smartphones. Nokia 8.3 5G, Nokia 5.3 and Nokia 1.3 join the company’s expansive product lineup. While Nokia 8.3 is the first 5G smartphone from HMD Global, the Nokia 5.3 is the most interesting of the pack. It is the smartphone most people will be able to buy. It is still not clear when it will be available in India. However, when it does, there is a tough competition ahead.

HMD Global is yet to officially confirm the price of Nokia 5.3 in India. However, it will be available for €189 (around Rs 15,200). With rupee depreciating against global currency, it will be difficult for HMD Global to price it well. In that price segment, the competition is intense with models like Galaxy M21, Realme 6 Pro and Redmi Note 9 Pro. The Galaxy M21 is priced at Rs 12,999. The Realme 6 Pro and Redmi Note 9 Pro start at Rs 16,999 and Rs 12,999 respectively.

Nokia 5.3 is not a beast in the specifications department. However, it is aimed at those looking for simplicity and reliability. The smartphone features a 6.55-inch HD+ display and has a waterdrop notch. Powered by Snapdragon 665 SoC, it comes with 3GB or 4GB or 6GB of RAM and 64GB expandable storage. It has a 13-megapixel main camera, a 2-megapixel depth sensor, a 5-megapixel ultra-wide and a 2-megapixel macro. There is also an 8-megapixel selfie, Android 10 OS and 4,000mAh battery.
Samsung Galaxy M21 features a 6.4-inch display, Exynos 9611 SoC, 4GB RAM adn 64GB storage. There is a 48-megapixel main camera, 8-megapixel ultra-wide and a 5-megapixel depth sensor. At the front, you have a 20-megapixel selfie camera. The smartphone runs One UI 2.0 based on Android 10 and packs a 6,000mAh battery.
Realme 6 Pro and Redmi Note 9 Pro are powered by Snapdragon 720G mobile platform. The Realme 6 Pro has a 6.6-inch display with 90Hz refresh rate while Redmi Note 9 Pro has a 6.67-inch display. Realme 6 Pro comes with 6GB or 8GB RAM and 64GB or 128GB storage. The Redmi Note 9 Pro comes with 4GB or 6GB of RAM and 64GB or 128GB storage.
The Realme 6 Pro features a total of six cameras. There is a quad rear camera setup with 64-megapixel main camera, a 12-megapixel telephoto, an 8-megapixel ultra wide and a 2-megapixel macro shooter. At the front, you get a 16-megapixel wide and an 8-megapixel ultra wide-angle camera. It runs Realme UI based on Android 10, has a side-mounted fingerprint sensor and is backed by a 4,300mAh battery.
The Redmi Note 9 Pro has a 48-megapixel + 8-megapixel + 5-megapixel + 2-megapixel quad rear camera setup. There is also a 16-megapixel selfie camera housed inside a punch-hole display. It runs MIUI 11 based on Android 10 and has a side-mounted fingerprint sensor as well. It packs a large 5,020mAh battery.
Availability
Samsung Galaxy M21 will go on sale for the first time via Amazon India on March 23. Realme 6 Pro is available for purchase via Flipkart and Realme’s own website. Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro will go on sale via Amazon India on March 24. There is no word on when Nokia 5.3 will come to India but is set to go on sale in Europe soon.
