Game developer and gaming platform Steam owner, Valve, has launched its latest game Artifact which is based on its most popular game Dota 2. Artifact is a collectible card game that takes from the lore of Dota 2 and is priced at Rs 1,499.
The description of the game reads, “A collaboration between legendary game designer Richard Garfield and Valve, Artifact offers the deepest gameplay and the highest-fidelity experience ever seen in a trading card game.” Artifact is Valve’s attempt to capture the digital collectible card game market which was established by Blizzard with its own game Hearthstone, which incidentally happens to be free.
Artifact is a slightly more complicated game to play than its counterparts from the other publishers and employs not one but three different boards where cards are dealt which indicate the three lanes in Dota. The release from Valve comes with a new trailer that shows more than we have seen before. There is a new comic to celebrate the launching of the game as well which is called “Call to Arms” which also happens to be the name of the first card set that players will be given in the game.
“We hope all gamers enjoy ‘Artifact,’ especially fans of ‘Dota 2’ and card gaming enthusiasts,” said Valve CEO Gabe Newell. “Working with Richard Garfield has been an incredible opportunity for everyone at Valve, and we look forward to expanding the game with him based upon feedback and input from the community.”

Some beta testers have criticized the game for unclear monetization practices and Valve has since added a new casual Phantom Draft mode which includes a new feature to recycle unused cards. Unlike Hearthstone, Artifact is only available on PC, Mac and Linux for now.
