Fortnite vs PUBG: The two games battle it for ‘Best Mobile Game’ title at The Game Awards

Fortnite and PUBG have been competing for the title of the alpha in the battle royale arena since they have been released last year. Fortnite had a slow first year compared to PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds which blew up after coming to Steam on Early Access basis. PUBG became the rave on PC, but Fortnite slowly gained ground.

PUBG released officially on PC in December last year and its reign continued to the first few months of this year until Fortnite took over in terms of monthly players and has continued to do so. But it wasn’t until Fortnite announced that it is going to be going to come to iOS that we had heard of plans for PUBG to launch a mobile version of the game. But as soon as Fortnite launched its iOS version, Tencent Games followed up by launching PUBG Mobile for both iOS and Android devices. And it turned out to be one of the better gaming experiences on mobile.

PUBG Mobile has since turned up the heat in this competition with Epic GamesFortnite. And now both the games are nominated under the Best Mobile Game category at The Game Awards alongside Donut County, Florence and Reigns: Game of Thrones.

Last week saw some real big spending for PUBG Mobile, which is estimated to be around 2.7 times more than the revenue that was earned in the week prior. This increase amounted to $12 million, up from $4.5 million in terms of currency. This includes spending in the game from the App Store as well as the Google Play Store. This was apparently 43 percent more than the Fortnite earned from iOS devices during that period of time. This resulted in the first week since the monetization of PUBG that it was able to out earn Epic Games’ Fortnite in terms of player based earnings.
