Fossil Sport Smartwatch launched with new Snapdragon 3100 chipset

Fossil has launched a new smartwatch, simply called Sport Smartwatch. The wearable is one of the few smartwatches to be powered by Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 3100 platform, which is claimed to offer better battery life. In addition, the smartwatch runs Google’s Wear OS, which recently got a big revamp as well.

In terms of features, Fossil Sport Smartwatch has just about everything you’d expect from a smart wearable in 2018. It comes with an integrated heart-rate sensor, NFC, GPS, and of course, the ability to run a variety of third-party apps and services. The watch comes pre-installed with Spotify and an emergency services app.

As the ‘Sport’ in its name suggests, Fossil’s new smartwatch is targeted at users with an active lifestyle. The watch is available in two sizes – 41mm and 43mm – and comes in six different colors – gray, pink, red, blue, green, and black. There’s also a wide-range of silicone straps available, which are water-resistant. The smartwatch is priced at $255 and will be available at Fossil’s retail stores.

Fossil claims that the 350mAh battery of Sport Smartwatch is good enough for all-day use. Combined with the improved battery performance that Snapdragon 3100 likely comes with, the wearable should have significantly better battery life than previous-generation smartwatches.

As far as Wear OS is concerned, Google’s wearable platform hasn’t exactly set the market on fire, but the company is still focused at improving it. A few months back, Wear OS was updated with a revamped user interface that can be navigated via a bunch of swiping gestures. It also comes with Google Assistant baked in.
