OnePlus 7 won’t be 5G-capable, likely to launch under separate branding with new design

OnePlus is working towards launching a 5G-capable flagship smartphone next year. OnePlus revealed this information in an interview which was later confirmed by SoC maker Qualcomm. At the time, there was no additional information available about the 5G-enabled smartphone from the China-based smartphone maker and initial reported anticipated that the company is planning to bring the 5G connectivity to the masses with OnePlus 7 or probably the OnePlus 7T. Amidst the speculation and anticipation, new information has surfaced on the internet about the 5G-capable device from the company.

According to a report by CNET Spain, OnePlus revealed that OnePlus 7 will not come with 5G connectivity. Instead, the company is planning to launch the 5G-capable device with a new device design under a new branding. This was initially reported by PhoneArena which indicated that it makes sense for the company to separate the 5G-capable device from its regular flagship lineup. The report also noted that the 5G-capable device from the company is likely to be expensive because of the relatively new technology.

Watch: OnePlus 6T Hands-On

The expected price difference between this and the current flagship smartphone from the company, the OnePlus 6T is likely the reason that it is planning to branch 5G-capable devices under a separate branding. This will ensure that OnePlus 7 and 7T will continue to be available at a competitive price.

According to the report, it is likely that OnePlus may reveal the 5G-capable device during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2019. This means that the company is all set to launch three smartphones in 2019 in comparison to the two smartphone launch cycle that it has followed in last three years.
