Samsung’s current smartphone lineup includes the Galaxy S, Galaxy Note, Galaxy A and Galaxy J series. All the segments differ from each other in terms of features and price but the company could soon add a new series to the mix called Galaxy M. The existence of Galaxy M series first appeared last week and now, more details about the devices have emerged.
According to Sammobile, Samsung is developing at least two devices under the Galaxy M series and it could consolidate for all the devices in its budget portfolio. There are reports of Samsung getting rid of the Galaxy J, Galaxy On and Galaxy C series and offer Galaxy M as the alternative. Samsung’s mobile chief DJ Koh has already confirmed that the company is working to bring features from its flagship devices to lower-priced devices and Galaxy M could be part of that strategy.
Samsung Galaxy M: What we know so far
We don’t know the actual names of the upcoming Galaxy M devices but they are said to feature model numbers – SM-M205F and SM-M305F respectively. This is in line with a previous report which suggested Samsung working on two devices named Galaxy M20 and Galaxy M30.
The report notes that Samsung has more such devices in the works and is adopting product names with double digits for the Galaxy A series as well. There is a high likelihood that the model numbers are different from the phone names.
The leaks so far have revealed that these Galaxy M series devices will be offered with up to 128GB of storage. The Galaxy M smartphone with model number SM-M205F will have 32GB and 64GB storage options while the SM-M305F will be offered with 64GB or 128GB storage. Both the models will support dual SIM connectivity but there could be single SIM variants for select markets.

According to IDC, Samsung’s smartphone market share declined by 13.4 percent at the end of third quarter, over the same period last year. While it remains the market leader, its position is under threat from Chinese smartphone makers, mainly Huawei and Xiaomi. With the new Galaxy M series, Samsung could be planning to make a strong comeback in the ever competitive market.
