Samsung has been launching its flagship clam-shell phones for a while now, even though these are exclusively available in China. And now it has launched the 2019 version, which is called Galaxy W2019. The selling point of this smartphone is its flagship specs, and its flip form factor that includes an AMOLED display on the outside for using the phone without having to open up the flip screen. And on the inside of the flip, the phone comes with another AMOLED display and a hardware numeric keypad along with navigation keys.
The new W2019 comes with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC, which is paired with 6GB of RAM, and 128GB or 256GB of internal storage that can be expanded using microSD cards. As for the two displays on the device, both of these Super AMOLED displays are 4.2-inches in size, have an aspect ratio of 16:9, and come with 1080×1920 pixels resolution.
The cameras on the new W2019 are what we have seen on Samsung’s Galaxy S9+. The rear features a dual-lens setup with a 12-megapixel variable aperture camera (ranging between f/1.5 to f/2.4) with a wide-angle lens, and other is a 12-megapixel telephoto lens of aperture f/2.4. As for the front, it features an 8-megapixel camera with an f/2.0 aperture lens.
In terms of powering the phone, the battery it sports has a capacity of 3,070mAh, which is charged using a USB Type-C connector. The W2019 runs Android 8.1 Oreo out-of-the-box that has Samsung’s own UI on top of it.
The device also comes with a dedicated Bixby button like the other Samsung flagship smartphones on the side. The fingerprint scanner on the device is on the side panel, and the phone is made out of anodized, diamond-cut aluminum and glass. But the smartphone is a rather thick device at a thickness of 17.3mm at its thinnest which is thicker than some laptops available today.
