WhatsApp outlines the guidelines on Business profile names

WhatsApp has just rolled out guidelines on its official website about the business profile names that an organization or a small business can set. According to WhatsApp, the name on the business profile “must be representative” of the organization or business. According to the “Creating business names” section, these rules need to be followed to ensure that businesses on WhatsApp can get the verified business mark. According to the rules, only the first letter of each word can be capital except in cases of acronyms and it does not count conjunctions.

The name should have single spacing between any two given words and must not have more than single spacing. Businesses also can’t add any unnecessary punctuation, emoji, symbols, or special characters. To make things cleaner while reducing the chances of misleading Business names, the company has prohibited “any variation of the word ‘WhatsApp’” from the profile names. To ensure reduction of spam groups, the guidelines also state that the business or organization should not use “consecutive non-alphanumeric characters” in the name.

In addition to all these rules, the profile name should also not just include the full name of a person, a generic term, a generic location, or less than three characters. The rules also warned business owners that if their account is already listed as “Official business account” than making any changes to the account name will result in loss of the “Official business account” status.

For context, WhatsApp Business is a separate app that the company launched earlier this year. This comes right after WhatsApp confirmed that it will be bringing advertisements to the Status section in the app.
