Nokia 8 Android Pie update is right around the corner, HMD Global confirms

Among all Android smartphone makers, HMD Global has been the most consistent when it comes to releasing timely software updates. Since commencing operations at Mobile World Congress last year, the Finnish company has been consistent with software updates for its Nokia-branded smartphones.

The company has already released Android 9 Pie update for three of its devices – the Nokia 7 plus, Nokia 6.1 Plus, and Nokia 7.1. Now, it has confirmed that Android 9 Pie update is coming to Nokia 8 soon. The confirmation comes after a report emerged stating that the scheduled update for the smartphone has been delayed by a few days due to some technical problems.

Juho Sarvikas, Chief Product Officer at HMD Global, in a tweet, revealed that the company is working hard on the Android 9 Pie update for the Nokia 8. He added that the update has been delayed due to an unresolved technical issue and thus, the roll out has been delayed. Sarvikas further confirmed that the update has been delayed by a “couple of more days”.

“We have been burning the midnight oil to get your Nokia 8 on Android Pie. Unfortunately, we still have few issues to address and need a couple of more days to make it perfect. Thank you for your patience,” Sarvikas tweeted.

Nokia 8 was the flagship smartphone from the Finnish licensee of Nokia-brand when it launched last year. The smartphone was launched with Android 7.1 Nougat, but received an update in February that upgraded the operating system to Android Oreo.

To recall, Nokia 8 featured an aluminum unibody design with 5.3-inch Quad HD display. It is powered by Snapdragon 835 SoC coupled with 4GB or 6GB of RAM and 64GB or 128GB internal storage. There is dual 13-megapixel rear camera setup with Carl Zeiss optics and a 13-megapixel selfie shooter at the front. It gets a front-mounted fingerprint sensor and is backed by a 3,090mAh battery. In the meantime, HMD Global has sent invites for an event on December 10 in India where it is expected to launch the Nokia 8.1.
