Xiaomi and IKEA enters strategic partnership for smart IoT products in China

Xiaomi at AIOT Developers Conference in Beijing on Wednesday announced a strategic partnership with Swedish furniture giants IKEA to produce smart lighting devices for its Internet of Things (IoT) wing. The Chinese company have built dedicated teams for the development of these new technologies.

During the conference, Xiaomi’s founder and CEO Lei Jun explained about the strategic layout of Xiaomi’s AI and IoT businesses for next ten years. Also, starting December, Xiaomi and IKEA will be making smart lighting products for Xiaomi’s Internet of Things (IoT) ecosystem. Some reports in Chinese media noted that IKEA has recently integrated Xiaomi’s smart products into its catalog.

Donovan Sung, Xiaomi’s Global spokesperson and Director of Product Management also posted about the IKEA partnership on Twitter saying, “Xiaomi and IKEA announced a strategic partnership today. Going forward, IKEA’s line of smart lighting products will be connected to Xiaomi’s IoT platform, starting in December.”

In addition, Xiaomi’s AI voice assistant ‘Xiao Ai’ will be compatible in Ikea’s smart lighting products. Xiaomi says ‘Xiao Ai’ has been activated in about 100 million devices as of November 25 since its launch, and has a monthly active user base of 34 million.

Xiaomi also presented company’s third-quarter financial report. In total, Xiaomi has sold of 132 million units IoT devices with business recorded 10.8 billion yuan in revenue as of the third quarter of 2018. It recorded 89 percent growth in IoT from the same period last year.

The Chinese company went public earlier this year and as of now it is one of China’s leading smartphone and internet of things (IoT) company.
